Plain cement tiles11/1/2023 ![]() Efflorescence, or ‘lime bloom’, often appears as white patches or a lightening in colour and can be confused with colour fading. It’s worth noting that concrete tiles can be prone to efflorescence. Ensuring this is removed will prevent damage. Do Clay or Concrete Roof Tiles Require More Maintenance?ĭue to their location, roof tiles need to be able to pretty much look after themselves and thankfully neither clay nor concrete roof tiles require much in the way of maintenance.Īreas of roof that are likely to be regularly exposed to moisture might, over time, grow moss or lichen (on clay perhaps more so than concrete). Keeping the roof clean, free of moss and replacing cracked, missing or damaged tiles quickly will extend the life of the roof. However, the British climate does not often experience such wildly extreme weather conditions for these factors to be a huge issue when it comes to making your decision. Clay, on the other hand, may crack in extremely cold weather. The location of the roof and how well it is maintained affects its longevity in both cases.Ĭoncrete roof tiles absorb more water than clay, meaning they may be prone to staining or mildew. It is more likely that the underlay will need replacing well before the tiles. Manufacturers of both clay and concrete tiles tend to offer warranties of at least 30 years, although both can be expected to last at least double this time. ![]() The appearance of concrete roof tiles might not withstand the test of time as well as clay, but their performance typically can. Clay Tiles? Do Clay Roof Tiles Last Longer Than Concrete? It is true that achieving the subtle imperfections and varieties in texture, colour and size is much harder with concrete. “A natural clay roof delivers a character and richness that will last for the lifetime of the tiles, even mellowing and improving over time, while a concrete roof will tend to fade over the years. “The case for clay tiles over concrete is largely an aesthetic one,” says Dave Sherry. With concrete products, although most are now through-coloured, the finished aesthetic is achieved with a coating and this may diminish over time. The natural properties of clay allow for an appearance that stands the test of time with improved colour stability. The main differences become more obvious with age. That said, these days there are some really convincing clay replicas (not to mention slate lookalikes) and, in the case of contemporary homes, where a traditional, rustic aesthetic is not perhaps integral to the design, concrete is a good option. Yes, concrete tiles may well win in the price stakes, but clay roof tiles possess a charm and character that is difficult to replicate. (Image credit: William Blyth) What's the Difference in Appearance Between Concrete vs Clay Roof Tiles? How can you Tell the Difference Between Concrete vs. A combination of three colours has been used to achieve the character the owners were after. Natural handmade clay tiles from William Blyth were chosen for this self build project on the coast. Prices for machine-made clay tiles are, on average, from around £405 per 1,000, while handcrafted tiles (made by machine, but designed to simulate the appearance of a handmade product) start at £500 per 1,000. Handmade clay tiles tend to start at around £772 per 1,000. “While concrete tiles are less expensive than clay, there is, increasingly, a greater variety of clay roof tiles for the self builder to choose from and greater opportunity to find a solution within budget.” “Concrete is also heavier than clay and may require a different structural arrangement to support the heavier load, which could add to the cost of the roof. “Clay tiles can vary in price but are roughly 20%-30% higher than concrete, but it’s important to remember that all the remaining roofing costs are the same whether you use clay or concrete, so the actual saving on the whole roof is considerably less than the 20%,” says Dave Sherry, sales manager of Dreadnought Tiles. Also, a machine-made clay tile such as Marley’s Acme Single Camber clay plain tile costs just a fraction more than a concrete equivalent. For example, handmade clay tiles can cost up to 50% more than machine-made clay tiles. Within the range of clay roof tiles available, there are different price options. Marley's concrete plain tile in Old English Dark Red from is a convincing clay replica.

Iep writer texas11/1/2023 ![]() Identifying the functional limitation is a swift way to overcome the next hurdle – constructing a goal. Just as an Early Intervention therapist makes family-friendly goals, it would behoove a school-based therapist to set functional academic goals for easy progress monitoring. A school-based PT goal to navigate stairs safely and independently would therefore be appropriate for Jane’s IEP because being unable to reach her classroom safely and on time independently affects her learning experience. Jane’s functional limitation to independence is her need for external assistance and an aide and the physical therapist identifies inadequate strength, poor proprioception and lack of sufficient balance as Jane’s impairments. Moreover, she is consistently slower than her peers. Jane looks down at her feet when stepping, and cannot carry her school-related items (artwork, lunch bag, or music folder) without losing her balance. Let us consider the case of Jane, a kindergartener who uses one or both handrails to access stairs within the school building. ![]() In a school setting however, the skill lies in seeing how these are affecting the student’s performance and inclusion. The graduate school courses and clinical fieldwork experiences train us well to identify impairments and disabilities. In addition to interviews, observation and evaluations, some therapists may consult the gym curriculum to help establish benchmarks when assessing motor abilities. The target for improving performance could be tasks in the classroom, the gym or any school related activity and that includes navigation and playtime. Related services are transportation and those developmental, corrective, and other supportive services required to help a child with a disability to benefit from special education.1 The main goal of Physical Therapy as a related service is to address the impairments in strength, balance, coordination, and mobility that affect the student’s functional task performance. Goals are essential to make progress of any kind.įirst of the three main purposes of the IDEA Act is to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them appropriate and free public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living. ![]() What definitely matters is that you make it to the finish line so you can declare, “I did it.” There is immense satisfaction in that because you decided on a goal and accomplished what you set out to achieve. Some may take it slow and steady while others may sprint, jog, walk or even crawl to make it to the finish line. You can reach the finish line only if you can see it |
